Honestly, net worth has been at a standstill, and it’s definitely because I’m nowhere near as diligent as a I should be. Over the summer I stopped contributing to my 401K because I wanted to start putting cash away for a house in Summer of 2022.
As it turns out, if you’re not actually tracking expenses, the money doesn’t save itself 🙃
I’m embarrassed it’s taking me this long to begin tracking again, but it’s time to get granular once again.

My last 60 day change was less than thrilling, and I would say we’re looking at similar numbers here. Not a huge change in net worth 😩
| November 2021 | August 2021 |
Cash | $5,201 | |
Investments | $71,997 | |
Net Worth Total | $82,924 | 74,723 |
Some thoughts
InshaAllah, I’m hoping the new job and higher salary will get me to the $130K goal I’d like to have by the time our lease ends in June. Honestly, I’m looking forward to crossing the 100K mark. (For whatever reason, Vanguard still shows my total balance to include $19,000 of unvested balance that will never be mine on the dashboard, which also gets pulled into Personal Capital. It’s unfortunate because on PC it looks like our net worth is 100+ but the reality is different 🤪)
I’m grateful Alhamdulillah that we’re making progress on our goals, and that I’ve come a long way in a short period of time since I first started tracking (September of 2019! The pandemmy bull market has been a huge boost in getting initial momentum).

A breakdown of my most of my expenses
Ahhh, finally, breakdown time, aka the time I truly re-think everything in my life.
Car | $413.25 | I AM ALMOST DONE PAYING OFF MY CAR!!!!!! |
Restaurants | $658 | Once again, I am stressed by this number. Dang. Never feels like it will be that high when paying. |
Shopping | $1448 | New abayas, scarves, $350 worth of Bonobos for Mr. H… and $350 for a SoloStove… Yeah it’s a lot. To be fair, those too added up to a birthday gift. Maybe I should return the clothes though 😩 |
Healthcare | $1992 | Mostly some dental bills, which insurance did cover. |
Personal Care | $412 | I think it’s time to cancel my Orangetheory membership, because I truly don’t know when I will go back. Includes a $120ish Beautycounter order, plus Grove order. |
Home Improvement | $214 | $200+ at Ikea and another $200+ Amazon. I don’t |
Entertainment | $55 | Kindle and Hulu and Spotify and Netflix |
Travel | $1590 | The second half of the Airbnb, plus EZ pass, plus two visas for travel that may not even end up happening |
Groceries | $408 | Up from $377. |
Insurance/Auto | $372 | Car insurance, although we did sell a car so this should go down some. |
Gas | $8.02 | Apparently Mr. H has been filling and paying for gas, |
The Life Part:
I also want to document some general life wins, because it’s easy to forget all the good things that happened:
Some wins from November:
- We went to the beach!!!! And it was a perfect week. My in laws joined us for the last few days and it looks like they really enjoyed themselves. It was honestly a nice reminder of what money can buy ~ an unforgettable week in nature but like also in a beachfront airbnb. 10/10 would do it again.
- I started a new job!!!! With a 30% base pay bump. Love it so far and it’s fully remote!
